Over 40 years in the making
The G wagon is over 40 years old and started life as a military vehicle. In the early 1980’s Mercedes offered a civilian version (how Hummer offered the H2). The civilian model aka W460 ran from 1979 to 1992 with 2 litre and 3 litre variants. In 1990 the W463 was introduced and became the “S-Class” equivalent for the G class and offered an extensive range of models including the AMG variant. This was designed to take on Range Rovers, offering comparable luxury and performance. Now in 2020 we have the W463 second generation which boasts a more refined design and updated interior.
No longer utilitarian
As we previously mentioned, the W463 was designed to take on the Range Rover, so it needed tech and since Mercedes-Benz are innovators, the new 2020 G Wagon boasts a lot of it including:

The standard G Class line up features a G 400d and AMG line which have an on the road price from £102,000. If you are looking for power you can go for the Mercedes-AMG G 63. The model we have here at Hughes, boasts a 585 horsepower and 850nm of torque from its 4.0-Litre V8 Biturbo engine which will take the G 63 to 62mph in 4.5 seconds!
